TRANSFORMING A 1950’S SPLIT-LEVEL

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ

When the owners (the Architects’ Mom & Dad) of this 1950’s split-level could not find a contemporary they liked on a piece of property they liked, they decided on a transformation.

The existing tiny Kitchen and Dining Room were combined to create a large eat-in Kitchen. The existing Living Room became the Dining Room, and a new Living Room was added. A new small Entry Foyer was also added. At the opposite end of the house, a second Garage was added with walk-in closet and Screened Porch above, off the Master Bedroom.

The middle portion of the house was not changed, other than the new windows and vertical cedar siding that helped complete the style change.

The entire project was built by family members – including Faith & Hope.
